get in line.
Who is the waveform expert that can tell what a mix sounds like by the visual appearance of the waveform?
when it looks like a 2x4 i can usually tell that it's going to sound like an electric razor in a frying pan.

you can't see 'em but there's another 40 tracks on that song that look just like those.

look at it again. it's not complicated at all. all i'm doing is muting some parts/notes and doing some fades.
You really have to use this software to edit/make music ???
i use that software to make music because it's amazingly easy, fast and intuitive.
Are the fades manipulated with a mouse or a direct fader ??

It is not that they have this supreme talent ~~they simply are not aware of all the editing available. The heavy-post editing does not enter their songs' equation> when writing. Most post work involves vocal layering and midi orchestration/percussion. Sure they grew up with tape from the 60/70's and maybe never ventured as far as we have> in the digital world of recording.

The school of perfect your game : before you hit the court was just a standard from their past. The minute editing was not available, so you never per-sued much thought of post work. [/i]

I do mix occasionally to 1/2", but when I mix to track on the DAW, I still gotta watch my VU and peak meters, just like a REAL desk. If your levels are good, they are good. Who is the waveform expert that can tell what a mix sounds like by the visual appearance of the waveform?

Gotta mix with your ears and watch the meters from time to time.
Still monitor the VU --- the ears work much better, than that waveform, in our final production.

back in the day, good bands just needed one bass drum. you crazy kids and your protools.
75% of our kicks are midi sequenced and quantized
the rest is straight to tape as they say Image

Little of both, but mainly faders. I have faders for both the home and work ProTools rigs.
