Not that they are necessarily recorded so well, but that 80's dance tune "Hey Mickey" from Tony Basil sure had catchy claps.
Remember the cheerleader video?
Probably rather forget it!

"we suck young blood" by radiohead, off the album, hail to the thief.
they sound so authetic.
i've written the song that god has longed for. the lack of the song invoked him to create a universe where one man would discover inspiration in a place that god, himself, never thought to look.

i think there's a tune or two on mary timony's 'mountains' that has some awesome sounding handclaps recorded in the stairwell at the much missed kingston st loft. mega reverb.
i admit to clapping my hands in the stairwells here at work pretty much every day. ya gotta make your own fun at the day job.

Here Comes the Sun - has some cool syncopated claps, tight and fierce sounding, esp. where they come out of the bridge back into the verse. Today, that is my vote for the best, although it's a tight race btwn those and the 'who are you' claps as performed in 'the Kids Are Alright' movie as mentioned above.

What's more complex than a quasi-random scattering on beats two and four? Call me crazy but that's more complex to my ear than the most tightly rehearsed second-and-fourth-of-a-five-note-quintuplet or what-have-you handclap could ever be.

Didn't the song "Some Kind of Wonderful" have handclaps in it?

I'm going with the first Q & Not U album. They aren't your typical handclaps, but come in out of nowhere and they sound so awesome. Even better is the fact that the band pulled the claps off live when I saw them, as well.

I seem to recall Instant Karma having some slapback drenched handclaps on it - but I might be hallucinating.

Death Cab for Cutie's, "The Sound of Settling". Those are so great! Syncopated and crazy processesing etc. That's definitely my favorite right now.

Finally! I was afraid nobody would bring this up. These are, by far, my favorite hand claps. But I do also have to agree with the Jack and Diane comment.
