Another 6.4 user here... i'm on LE on an old g4 powerbook though, same setup since about 2004. will stay on it until it dies (knock wood), or until i start making more money!trodden wrote:same here, made the jump from 5.2 to 6.4 two years ago. I'm still on digi 001, alesis ai-3 (both BLA modded) and BLA sparrow, along with a mac g4 dual 800 power pc.InvalidInk wrote:Pro Tools 6.4
So as far as upgrades.. i can either go the old tdm/mix "pro" protools and keep the computer.. or junk everything.
it works great for me though!
What legacy DAW are you still using?

You liking it? You're in Seattle, Great! you can help me out when i do the same!dylandotwall wrote:Through some awesome hand-me-downs, a bit of $ on ebay, and countless hours of troubleshooting, I've pieced together a solid PT Mix Plus system (6.4.something). Everything is running on a P4 with XP. If I ever make it to HD, digi/avid will be on to the next generation.

Mackie HDR24/96. Rock solid, no latency (well, not enough to worry about), sounds damn good to me. This, with a AD16X in front of it, though. Paired with a D8B and some solid outboard gear - I see no reason for upgrades. I work in Cubase 5 sometimes, but only when necessary. I much prefer my Mackie system for the meat and potatoes of my work.
I have several magnetic "ProTools" logos I can put on top of the Mackie ones and keep a monitor of PTLE 6 on display to fool clients with (JK!!).

I'm running Ardour 2.4.1 on 64studio 2.1 (Linux) on a hand me down HP desktop with an M-Audio Delta 1010. It's amazing how well this stuff works! Plus it's all Open Source software so it's nice and free. I'll admit that our studio's motto is "Lo-Fi - No Budget", but that's more a reflection on our meagre supply of mics.

For my own noodling and small-scale demos and projects I still love Tracktion.
(Nearly) orphaned product [shame!] by a company with the money to keep it a least processor current.
One screen workflow means more music making and less menu surfing and their rack paradigm allows serial/parallel plug in schemes that allow really creative use of virtual instruments and fx.
But I gush.
