Yeah of course! Maybe I should start a thread for it...
Please do.

I just scored one of these that someone was "improving" by taking off the mesh and screens, and the magnets pulled one of the screws off his workbench, right through the ribbon.

And please include sources for the ribbon material and corrugator!

HA! That is very similar to what happened to me! Took a layer of mesh out and I was screwing the head basket back and and the magnets are so strong on the mic that it pulled the screw of my screw driver and ripped right through the ribbon. I was so pissed off.

Anyway I'll start the thread later tonight and take some pics of the mic too.

I wish I had taken pictures during the process but I was so focused and freaked out during the job I didn't even think about it.

More DIY maintaince shit to do today. Opening up a 32 channel console and cleaning it out. Hopefully have time to clean out my midiverb II also

I'm doing a rackup on some Collins 356A modules and Gates PRE4 modules, both of which are 40 dB fixed gain. I worked out some gain modifications, Collins can have more gain, the Gates can have both a little less, and a little more. Should make them easier to drive.

I etched my first pcb. It's just a simple jig to find the VTH and IDSS for jfets. Would have taken 5 minutes to do with perfboard, took hours to do like this. But, it's a start!

Next time I need to be more careful drilling the holes.

I built a mic-muting footswitch, so I can burp privately with my headset on.

It strikes me after the fact that I should have put on a phantom powered LED so I can tell when it's engaged.

I just rewired my Alamo Jet lap steel, with a DiMarzio humbucker.

Straight out to the DI, no volume knob, nothing.

Sweet.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Patchbay

Post by supafuzz » Tue Jan 29, 2013 12:42 pm

Totally disassembled a patchbay to make channels 1-16 normalled..took 2 hours..was kind of irritated but eventually I realized that it was ok to get to know the gear on a molecular level...and settled in to a relaxed kind of Zen meditation [Zen and the art of studio maintenance}

Dremel tool with the little Dremel drill press. It's a pretty decent combo for drilling pcbs.

Yeah, I'm using a Proxxon rotary tool with the drill press stand?my problem was that I had difficulty seeing where the little bit was going. Not used to working with bits that small! A magnifying glass will probably help some, but I expect it's just practice.

Optivisors are great for this kind of stuff. You can get various lenses for different levels of magnification. Makes life much easier.

That's a really good suggestion, thanks. I imagine it'll be useful when I start doing smd, also.

Rebuilding my Rogers Studio 1 vintage monitors with new old stock bass drivers. I *luckily* found several on eBay after blowing one up mid-January. I have some spares now.

finished putting together my first Akai M8 preamp
built a quick passive DI with cinemag transformer
put a new transformer in my Apex 210 ribbon mic

right now I'm preparing to finally do some mods on my Tascam MS-16. Beefing up the power supply, replacing all the old electrolytic caps, adding bypass caps, new opamps, etc. I'll post some details in my old thread once I get started.
