This tune sounds like it employed 2x4's on Joe Meeks staircase...

I didnt have time to scroll thru the five pages of this thread so sorry if its been mentioned already but I was just listening to Shattered by the Stones. During the guitar solo, the handclaps absolutely make that solo.

Me too- too long for riight now to make sure I'm not being redundant... but wanted to add "Shovel Into Spade Kit" By the Lilys. I think it's that song at least - the handclaps on that record are so much fun.

My favorite handclaps are on the Smithsonian Folkways album Been In The Storm So Long: Spirituals, Fold Tales and Children's Games from John's Island, South Carolina. There are these songs with a choir where they accompany themselves by stomping and clapping. Eventually they go into this syncopated double time clapping thing that is probably the funkiest thing I've ever heard. This is the album from which Eno & Byrne lifted the sample for "Moonlight in Glory" on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Awesome stuff.

In all actuality it's probably some very old jazz or swing recordings that could claim this title...don't ask me to reference it though as I haven't the slightest idea.

The worst handclaps have to be owned by the studio version of The Kinks 'Everybody's Going To Be Happy'. They're so off tempo that the song is rendered unlistenable to my ears. The live BBC version is fantastic though.
Well, the difference is that you strut and I stroll.

Pretty funny to see the marketing and sexism in action on that video as the female drummer (who sounds pretty good to me) is virtually nonexistent in the video save for a few shots here and there.
