I just wanted to know if when dumping off your tape machine (Tascam-MS16) into Pro Tools through an Apogee DA-16X: Would using the pad across all tracks to prevent any clipping effect the sound of the conversion?
Just wanted to know if a pad could make a difference in the sound in this situation... or can a pad effect the sound in any situation for that matter?
Dumping from tape into Computer with pad....

Pads ALWAYS affect the sound, but it is probably better than clipping the input...
Just give it a listen. Sometimes it is an evil that you can deal with later on down the chain, sometimes it seems to just suck the life out of certain sounds IMHO.
I would rather cal' the repro so that my two devices got along a little better. Are you printing psychotically hot to your tape machine?
I have actually had to re-align just to xfer stuff that was printed at like +40 zillion so I could even get it into PTHD and start up the expander festival to try and mine some transients....
