Hey folks. I have one of these units. It's noisy and basically useless to me right now. I want to do a couple of things. I want to replace the tube, but I also want to fuck with the circuit. Anyone had any luck with these? At worst, I'll send it to Matt at Black Lion, but since it is not a unit I'm using, I figure there is no harm in experimenting on my own. Thanks ya'll.

I cracked mine open once to peek around. The tube looks to be swappable, but I think the opamps are surface-mounted; no messing around going on there. And since I'm pretty sure this is a starved-plate design, I'm not sure how much difference in sound you're going to get by replacing the tube.

I'm not against cutting out an op-amp if there is a better replacement. I assume there is something else making the circuit noisy though
