Funny how the mind works... you said "an xlr cable inserted into the throat" and I was thinking of an entirely different orifice... though I suppose yours makes more sense.

Seriously, I think that someday (not in the near future though) all music will be recorded by MRI... it will get advanced enough that you could just wear a special helmet and all of your brain waves, down to the last synapse, can be measured and recorded, and "played back" on someone else's brain. So you just have to imagine the music... no need for instruments, mics, preamps, DAWs. Of course this wouldn't be limited to just sound... it would be a whole new frontier in porn, naturally. How well the experience translates would depend on how similar the composer's and listener's brains are. You could probably experience a lizard's thoughts, but a lizard wouldn't be able to experience yours. Not in our lifetimes, probably. But the seeds are there now.
