Huge Problem with Tascam DV-RA1000

Post by sonic documentation » Sun May 14, 2006 4:09 pm

Okay, this is exactly the kind of shit that you never want to happen ever during a recording session.

We had a larger client in the studio to record an EP that was 7 songs. We mixed from 2" to our Tascam DV-RA1000, and saved it as a 24 bit 44.1 kHz DVD+RW.

We left the DVD in the unit after the session and forgot about it. Later, during another session, the unit was turned on (I don't remember why), and somebody tripped over the power cable and unplugged it.

When the DV-RA1000 ejects discs, it has to save the UDFMI to the DVD, which is somewhat like a TOC on CD. The unit must be "properly shut down" when turned off so that it can save the UDFMI. Since it was unplugged while the UDFMI was open, it corrupted the disc, and now I can't find the final mixes for the band.

Is there any way to retrieve these files? All places online that I have found suggest not. Am I completely screwed?
