probably if you kept it low.

i've seen worse.

how would you mount it?

for that kind of money though i would just get a dedicated tom stand.

You will need a stand with a tom arm receptor such as the Yamaha WS955 (you can add a cymbal arm to it as well.

Yamaha hardware is really durable and heavy so it would not be a problem once mounted.

Well see, that's the thing,

I need a boom cymbal stand too. I've been a ride/hi-hat only guy for a long time (the ride has been on a straight stand) but I recently got a crash, and then I swapped out my floor tom too, so now I have a Gretsch one that doesn't have leg mounts. It's gonna need a stand of some sort.

Killing two birds with one stone is what I had in mind.

that yamaha tom mount looks pretty sweet, but it's like thirty bucks more and my tom still isn't going to mount without some extra piece of hardware.

I was just going to go to the hardware store and find something that works. the cost of adaptions for all this shit is just rediculous when you can just create something that works with stuff from the hardware store.

In that regard, the CS 945 stand is double braced. The Yamaha hardware I have seen is some heavy ass/durable ass shit, but I'm mainly thinking of this set at my school.

Anyway, that's what I was thinking. What's the point in getting a tom mount when I could mount the tom to a cymbal stand that I need anyway? That tom mount looks pretty cool, but I'm not sure if it's that much more heavy duty than the original cymbal stand in question is it?

I use a Tama double-braced stand to mount a Tama starclassic 15" tom

..has the swivel-ball L-arm and a telescoping boom arm for a cymbal

I mount it, low-ish, with the legs extended wide .

I would put some legs on the 15. I HATE mounted floor toms, they tend to bounce all over the place.

I have been doing this with Yamaha's 700-series stuff for years. The 900-series stand like that will work great.

put legs..thats probably the best idea or you could even use a snare stand..

though the cymbal side mount isnt a terrible idea either..

well not if it's a boom stand you can still put the tom where ever you want and boom the cymbal elsewhere.
I'd say just get that stand, a multi-clamp and a rims mount. You don't want to be drilling holes in that stop sign Gretsch.

Yup. My 15" starclassic tom has a similiar mount in the Starcast TM mount which is licensed from RIMS.

The bad thing about mounted floor toms is when you mic them & they bounce around & hit the mic. Had it happen! If you get a RIMS floor tom bracket, get the new style. The old ones can be very noisy with rattles & squeaks. I do have an old style 16" RIMS around somewhere. It was to noisy for me. The new ones are supposed to be great though.
