Bohemian Rhapsody
Bohemian Rhapsody
I don't know if this is like in Wayne's World when he starts playing Stairway in the guitar store. I hope this can be more like when they're in the car. Like all of us together enjoying this song.

A bit of lore... somewhat unsubstantiated since I can't give you a reference to this story...
but I heard that they ran the tape through so many times, that they started being able to see through the tape because it had rubbed off all the metal from the tape.
Can anyone confirm/deny this report?

Its probably more interesting to discuss Mario and my love of his fake accent which is only rivaled by his love of Queen.

I'll tell you one thing, Ive seen this guy many times on the street here in NYC and in Europe and it is amazing how many people know the words to Bohemian Rhapsody. It truly is suprising.

Queen is one of my all-time favorite bands. The only thing I know about the recording of the song is folklore about Freddie Mercury playing it (on Piano) for Roy Thomas Baker and stopping and saying "That's where the Opera starts" and RTB looking stunned.
Has anyone heard or gotten hold of the Killer Queen multitrack copy that's floating around? I'd love to have that. I've got some stereo MP3s of the rhythm section, the vocals and the guitars and it fucking kills!

Not to brag, but I'm gonna...
When I was working as a runner at Secret Sound in Los Angeles, Mike Shipley had been in for months working with Def Leppard doing guitar overdubs. It was just before that time when Freddie Mercury's death was announced late '91 early '92- although all reports we had was that he had died some 3 or 4 months of the press release. Anyway, Shipley was asked to do some remixes of the Queen material for that Greatest Hits that came out on Hollywood Records. We had a safety reel of Bohemian Rhapsody show up at the studio for Mike to mix. Secret Sound was an SSL equipped home studio with 2 Studer 24-track machines and an incredible host of other equipment.
I don't recall why Mike was not around immediately when the tape arrived, but I remember it sat for a period of time before anyone touched it. OF COURSE none of us could allow that reel to stay in the box!
Actually, it was the studio owner who put the damn thing up and that was when I first realized that there were 17 tracks of Freddy on that recording. It was a 24-track reel. Thinking back on it, I should have paid so much more attention and probably have taken notes on all of it. The safety reel was Ampex 456. I guess it's cool having the memory of pushing the faders up and down on our 6 minutes of monitor mixing.

I don't know anyone personally that likes Queen.
Uh, wait. I don't know anyone personally that will admit to liking Queen.
What I myself will admit to is fucking detesting Queen. saying that in this thread I feel like Donald Sutherland at the end of the Body Snatchers remake.
