DVD writer audio into pro tools

Post by doctari » Sun Jun 17, 2007 5:24 am

A blown power supply offered an opportunity to crack open my pc and install a dvd burner for saving and transferring PT le oo2r sessions. Giveing the Liteon writer a test drive as a player the video played fine but no audio. the computer uses the 002r as its sound card. The dvd burner is installed on the same IDE cable as the cd writer which is still playing audio. How can this be fixe?

I think audio playback from a CD-drive is usually carried over another wire (small coaxial, not the ribbon IDE cable)

The sound from your cd or dvd drive comes from any of three sources

Direct digital (spdif) this has a two pin connector

Direct analog (analog) this has a three or four pin connector (lggr)

The spdif and analog connections plug directly connect from the cd rom to a sound card or built in sound codex

the other connection is the digital signal from ide cables this gets converted in the processor but you can send this signal to any output you just have to set that up in software

Thanks for the info. I installed Windvd 4 and even though audio would not pass when using its player, i think some of the drivers installed with it are being used by Windows Media Player.so now I get moving pictures with sound.
