Pro Junior - Speaker out?

Post by Dan Phelps » Mon Jun 18, 2007 4:51 pm

Could some one with one of the newer Pro Juniors (like I would buy off the shelf) tell me if it has a speaker output? Is the speaker hard wired in or is it a 1/4" connection? What's going on back there?

Thanks,
Dan

Speaker out, so you can use it with a cabinet. 8 ohms, I believe.

It sounds really good driving something else, but it sounds really good for recording just using the speaker in the combo. I use one all the time.

My Pro Jr sounded great through a Bassman 2x12 cab.

Using an external cab also solved the tube rattle problem that I had on mine.

Pro Jr. is great w a closed back cabinet (picks up some bottom)

It gets shipped with a really cheap speaker (to keep costs down)

Replacing the speaker with something like the Jensen P10R really makes
the Pro Jr. sounds great.

Roscoe,
do you play through a cabinet live with the pro Jr?

roscoenyc,

Not to sound like a fan-boy, but you are the reason I started using my Pro, Jr. to record.

I seem to remember an interview you did about recording one of my fave bands, the Bottlerockets; you said something about how the Pro, Jr. can sound like any amp.

Not only do I agree, but I have quoted you about that elsewhere and here!

Maybe I do sound like a fan-boy...
bandcamp;

ah, thanks VVV.

Pro Jr's are pretty darn good.

Joel,

I have used the Pro Jr live with a cabinet and without. For a while I was using two of them with one powering a Bassman 2 x 12 cab and the 2nd Pro Jr powering both 10" speakers from the "heads". I used that rig for quite a while w Steve Earle. The Pro Jr is a $300 amp and there are some manufacturing comprimises in it like pretty low quality tube sockets and super cheap pots that are soldered directly to the PC board.

I eventually replaced the Pro Jr's with a couple Dr Z Maz 18 Jr's for durability.

We have had a couple Pro Jr's at the Lakeside Lounge as the house amps for many years and I have one at the studio and keep one (loaded w a jensen) at home for local gigs.

The Bassman cabinets are easy to find. Sound really great after you pull the fiberglass out.

here's a pic of the dual Pro Jr rig

Mine is stock, but I was thinking of getting one of those Weber British series 10s. Anyone tried those? Alnico or ceramic?

i just put a weber 12f150 speaker in my 70's fender musicmaster bass amp (im using it for guitar), made a massive difference, fuller sounding, a bit more clean headroom, etc... this amp is in a similar vein to the Pro Jr. but with a 12" speaker, 12 watts Class A (6v6's) and 1 12ax7.

my pro jr says shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Post by bantam » Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:51 am

i get a lot of shhhhhh noise out of mine (even with controls at zero). i know how to fix hum (filter caps) but is the shhhhhh noise just a design flaw? its running RCA NOS 12ax7s (EH's give the same noise levels) and the stock sovtek power tubes.

anyone????
