going home to Tape

Post by doctari » Fri Oct 12, 2007 9:28 am

Been recording my friends with PTLE PC for the last 3 years its fast and fairly cheap. After going to a once famous studio being revived with analog gear, I was inspired to dust off my 1/2"- 8, 1/2"-4, and 1/4"- 2. track otari machnes. I put up some tapes made before the PT rig came in the room, and cliches be damned, Acoustic guitars danced out of my 4301's and the simple Precision bass felt like home. Is it in my head? Am I being seduced by the analog rules supreme over digital conceit?
Dragged kicking and screaming into computer recording partly by peer pressure and because my connection for emtec 911 dried up, I feel myself retreating into the warm vu lighted cave of my little whirring reals of delight. Capturing a performance by people in real time has always been my goal.
If these recordings are to be dumped into PTLE for mixing, levels must be kept low to prevent clipping the delicate digi converters.
Do y'all think I need Help?
