PJ Harvey guitar sound on Yuri-G

Post by Baron » Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:17 am

Hi all,

This is my first post here; not sure if this is the right forum for this topic.

Around about the 2:09 mark on "Yuri-G" from PJ's 1993 album Rid of Me (engineered by Steve Albini), there is the most amazing guitar sound and I am trying to find out any information on how it was recorded. I'm particularly interested in the type of amp that was used.

I saw her playing live last year with an AC-30 and an Orange half stack, but I read somewhere that in the early days she used to use JCM800s.

If anyone had some info on this I'd appreciate it.

On that record she was playing a telecaster into a twin reverb with a boss ds-1 for distortion.

Marshall JCM800 MKI (the good sounding ones) and a Telecaster. I think she had a Tube Screamer for overdrive.
Best,
