Two Computer Monitors Set Up

Post by trodden » Sat Dec 22, 2007 1:08 pm

My girl and I did our "solstice" gifts last night. Holy crap, she got me two 19" flat screen monitors... the monitor i've been using for the past 6 years was a dumpster score and so so dark, and took up so much space with it being a huge ass crt.

Well now i have two! and i can to the fancy pants "mix window on one screen and edit window on the other screen" WOW!.

My video card in my g4, dual 800 has two outputs.. the regular analog VGA output which i'm using for one of these new monitors. it also has a 30 pin output 10X3 configuration. My system tells me this..

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with TwinView:

Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
Slot: SLOT-1
VRAM (Total): 64 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0110
Revision ID: 0x00b2
ROM Revision: 1075

does "twin view" mean i can can find some adapter to run both screens off of my video card?

also, on the monitors themselves, there is the standard analog connection(VGA).. but also a 8X3 DVI-D connection. Should i use a cable that goes from this to the other port on my video card?

I could run to the mac store and try an assortment of cable/converters... but those little pieces of plastic are expensive and would rather know what to get on one trip rather than having to return a bunch of stuff.

man this this is so bright..

thanks for your suggestions.

sweet, i found this..
The "Quicksilver" Power Macintosh G4 series announced on July 18, 2001 and discontinued on January 28, 2002 shipped with either a pre-installed 32 MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX or 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX TwinView, or a build-to-order 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce3 (DDR RAM) video card. The GeForce2 MX TwinView supports two monitors, one Apple monitor with an ADC connector and one monitor with a VGA connector. If you wish to use two Apple monitors with ADC connectors or two monitors with analog connectors, you will need to purchase a second video card or an VGA-to-ADC adapter.
i'm guessing the "other" port is "ADC". though it is 10X3 configuration and the monitor itself has a 8X3 for its DVI-D. there must be a cable that connects the two.. or i shoul just get an adapter that changes the ADC to VGA.

looks like going from ADC to DVI-D will be the best.. like a $45 adapter.

I'm jealous I would love two monitors but can't seem to spend the money there when there is gear to buy :)

Hell yeah.. rockin the AI-3 for long time now.. i'm so glad that the -10, +4 switch is there... after my dumb ass did the mod on the topaz to +4, forgetting that the 001 only does -10 on channels 3-8!! a good friend lent me his line level shifter so gain staging wouldn't make me too 'toopid.
