what is the best way to hook up a preamp/comp/interface?

hey, i just got a new chandler germanium pre and a FMR RNC. i am wondering what the best way to run the signal is? my apogee ensemble has 2 send/returns, but should i just go mic>pre>comp>ensemble?

try them every way you can and use what sounds good to you..

I second the patchbay idea.

Get one, learn how to use it, and then you can use your gear hooked up any way you want, and even change it around to suit different applications.

...but, before you get to a patchbay, your idea for mic->pre->comp->interface makes for a good start. That's sort of the default thing to start with, I'd say. Then use your ears and adjust accordingly.
