I have two 319s. I've just been scared of putting one of them in front of a 8x10 cab with a 350w SVT head at full blast
I'm assuming you have the pad on when you're doing this. Should I be concerned with SPL handling? Maybe make sure the bass player doesn't go apesh!t with volume?
I start off with the pad, but I don't use it if it isn't needed. I use them a lot on pretty loud guitar cabs also and never have any problems with them crapping out. They can handle somewhere around 120 dB for SPL. I use them on my drum kit too. and I play the hell out of that thing. Come to think of it I use them on a lot of stuff.

Is this a moded 319 or just stock?

I use the D112 that I originally bought for kick drum. Not a fan of the D112 on kick but do like it on bass.

I'm interested on the 602. How does it sound like?

sounds less hyped than the d112..the d112 sounds brighter and the 602 sounds more natural..I recently replaced my d112 with the 602 and I'm happy with that..

My un-modded MK 319 is my favorite bass cab mic too.

I have just started mic'ing my bass amps, and am liking the AT4040 on them more than my cheap NOS ribbon, SM58, MXL 1006, etc.

I did this on Saturday last with this:

I mix with olive juice.

you replaced it for bass drum also? or are you talking about just bass cabs?

In, and out of your price range..not in any order, my list would look like this:

Shure SM57.
Blue Mouse.
Neumann BCM705.
EV RE20.
D12
SM58

Couple ANY of those with a DI and I would be happy. I personally want the growl from the mic, and the low end from the DI when mixing rock.

for bass drum..but I'd use it on the bass cab too if I had two of them..I have a few mics that I like on bass cab so I'm probably not going to pick up another..

all the mics recommended in this thread will work well for bass cab..no point in trying to look for a holy grail..the only holy grail is to have a couple of everything and that gets expensive..

SM7 or 441 for me. Let the bass/amp take care of the rest. I used an AT4040 once with excellent results as well. And, you could definitely do a lot worse than a regular old SM57.

I'd like to get an RE20 at some point to try.

We bought an A-T Pro 25ax to do some recording on a budget. We used it for both the kick and the bass. Personally, I thought it handled the bass quite well.

i have this gold-ish/tan-ish colored 70s radioshack mic with a wired in 1/4" connector that sounds GODLY on bass (especially the musicman combo that is in the space) in conjunction with a room mic.

although i got a md421 recently and put that on the bass and it sounded great, obviously.

and im sure the re20 is wonderful, too. i also have to get mine fixed, sigh.
