MixingWithYourMind.com?

Post by gsrouse » Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:13 am

I'm looking at purchasing the book, but the emails I sent to info@mixingwithyourmind.com were sent back to me.

Does anybody know if they are still filling orders off that site?
Or, does anybody know any retailers in the US carrying the book?

Thanks,
Scott

is this book any good? I am tempted to buy it as I am an amateur/wannabe engineer and I figure it may be useful, but for $80 I am hesitant.

I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard a lot of great things about it from quite a few people.

I bought it awhile back and I'd have to say I was less than impressed by it. I only came away from it with a few new techniques/ideas that I've found useful. For the money, I got much more from The Mixing Engineer's Handbook, especially the interviews at the end of it. YMMV.

i feel the opposite way to kinger. i really like mixing with your mind, and have read it about 4 times now. each time i learn something new which i incorporate into my work. didn't like the mixing engineers handbook much, the interviews are good, but the first half of the book (the techniques) were nothing really new.

Have you double checked your local library? You would be suprised what they might have.

If they dont have it you could ask them to get it. I know at my library here, if you submit a form they often will buy it.

Dont forget, if your studio is a business, you can also write it off as an expense.

It is FANTASTIC!!!

But it is NOT FOR AMATEURS. Not for "Wannabes"... sorry...

If you are not familiar with basic audio concepts... then you might try an easier read first, like a John Gibson book on mixing / tracking. Much easier, and written for beginners in mind, some with audio and video examples. You can get a lot learned with these, and then move onto the Stav boook, if you decide audio engineering is for you.

i class it as inspirational. certainly Stav gives the impression of being a bit obsessive-compulsive, but all us studio hacks? (pull on the white gloves before moving the ribbon mic)

seriously, what i take away from the book each time i refer to it is not formula, but concepts and ideas.

hey - he's Aussie, so am i. it's good for the team, it's good for cricket.
