It's a 4 GB download for the version I grabbed (PT MP/Mac). Yes, you read that right, four GIGABYTES.

Wow.

Looks like they added a lot of virtual instruments, and for some stupid reason decided to package them up into the base installer instead of making them separate downloads.

I just finished installing it on my laptop to play around with it. It looks a lot more modern, but I haven't dug into it much yet. In any case, I'm going to let it shake out over the next few months before I dare to upgrade the studio workstation. Wait for them to get a CS1 or CS2 release out there to eliminate the worst of the bugs that crop up.

Wasn't there already a thread open for this? But now I can't find it. Strange....

Anyway, through fate / chance, I ended up upgrading to 8 LE last night, although normally I avoid upgrades like the plague. Long story short, I spilled about a gallon of water on my old macbook, purchased a new one, running 10.5.3 OS, hence the need to upgrade PT as well.

So far, I've had a few issues.

1. Crashing on launch when loading the rewire plug, until eventually I just removed that plug; I guess I'll need to reinstall Reason if I want to use it.

2. When opening old sessions (I was using 7.1) I'm getting artifacts / white noise pops all over the place. New sessions now seem to be running ok.

ANybody have any similar experiences, or have any ideas about how to fix these pops that are coming up all over the place?

I noticed it was $149 for the massive download. I'm on 7.3.1 so no free upgrades for me. I just seem to remember that last upgrade I got was only $75. I think I need some more reasons to pay that and wait for a DVD-size download before I jump on the bandwagon. I do like the idea of 48 tracks - I could have used more than 32 a few times (mostly for convenience...). What are the other "must-haves"? I'm not usually persuaded by shiny objects (and new GUI's).

Figured it out. The pops were the result of some of my plug ins needing to be re-registered on my new machine, just in case anybody else experiences the same thing.

The new GUI is just the tip... The MIDI functioning has been upgraded to the modern age. There's Sibelius-like real-time scoring. 48 tracks for LE. Comping is now intuitive and quick, alla Soundtrack. Session templates...

I just purchased the first copy from Guitar Center yesterday. The activation card was blank so I had to call and get the number. I haven't even opened a project yet but this seems like a "real' upgrade with all the VI's and effects.

The MIDI funcionality is my main attraction as I mainly work in the game industry. I like the idea of notating my music into sheet form for a live orchestra. It will make things much smoother in that realm.
Enjoy my web based guitar tuner and interactive tuning fork.

One thing I discovered is the ability to make the big counter,,.,well BIGGER!
It's one of my favorite tools and now can be seen from a much greater distance. When I'm listening with a client I give them a note pad to mark down parts that need to be fixed.. This will help that immensely.
It does seem that the tracks are a little wider which means in narrow mix mode it takes up more room...not great for large mixes.

I like a lot of the new plugins..I can see some crazy mix effects with the talk box! "do you feel like I do?" well do ya punk?

Haven't tried the playlist thing yet but am looking forward to it...

I have to check out the ability of keeping audio suite fx in a floating window that doesn't disappear. I use the gain function a lot during editing and premixing...
that's all I only used it for an hour earlier today

is it normal to have to uninstall your existing version of PT to upgrade? That seems odd :?

Yeah,

I downloaded my copy overnight. Took about 3.5 hours, through a Cable Modem Internet provider.

It ROCKS.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I *think* that's normal... I had to do that when I upgraded from 6.4 to 7.3. It does seem odd and counterintuitive, but there you go...
