eBay has that new feature....make offer.

i figure i'd just make an offer, and it would contact the seller, and they'd contact me.

nope.

it's instant.

i bought a d12.

it arrived...i tossed it in the kick for a quick jam on sunday.

HOLY CRAP.

what a great mic!

it has a HUGE amount of low end....i'm shocked.
i guess that means it's still in good condish. i've read about lacking low end.

it was even more shocked when i forgot to disable the EQ preset i had on, that i usually use with my beta52.

whoops.

i've done a few random searches....but i figured i'd toss it out there.....

anyone have an recommendations for uses/techniques?

i played around a ton at practice....just looking for more direction :)

congrats!

my favorite dynamic for kick yet. embiggens even the littlest kick. Sounds like you got a good one too. I tend to use inside the kick, close-ish to the beater, aimed at it. Very easy tones to use from that technique. Also, it makes a good mic for low-register brass like tuba.

When you place it in the kick, how close to the center of the head (or how far away from the shell) do you usually put it?

yeah, this drunk bastard that used to let my old band practice in his dungeon had an old D12. I educated him as to the proper use of the mic. Once you really hear one you instantly recognize that sound!

nice catch!

my experience:

it's 'ok' on kick - it's basiness is better to counter-balance shrillness, while keeping that AKG realism -

I used it as the 'utility' hand percussion mic recently - shakers, tambourine, hand claps, etc. worked great. gave roundness to the low end, while doing that dynamic-mic-rounding of the edges on the HF stuff.

great for a floor tom area mic, too.

in a blue moon, it shines on a guitar cab -

i'd say it's 'clear yet pillowy' -

everything has it's place!

Well done. Also try it on bassguitar for dub or reggea-ish stuff. Wunderbar :)

Pillowy is a good adjective for a D12. I like it on outside kick. Inside kick it seems to have a "whomppy" quality. Try it on a nice bass cab.

I always think of D12 as kind of a more tasteful, understated D112. It has a very nice presence peak. Not as agressive as most kick mics. I dont know about pillowy. It certainly isnt as hard in the low mid as some mics. But to be fair most of my experience using D12's wasn't on the best monitoring set-ups.
Damn. Totally forgot how much I had to get one of those mics again. Oh yeah, the prices are all neved up on ebay. I think I'll be getting a TAB 421, Minimoog and Musicman Sabre before I get another D12.
