Hiss in LDC -mic
Hiss in LDC -mic
I?ve got an old ULS which sometimes makes quite audible hiss... Stops by tapping the mic gently. Also stops if I change the polar pattern back and forth with the switch. Any quesses what would be the cause? The diaphgrapm isn?t in very good condition anymore (dusty and even lacks small piece of the gold coating). Might the exchange of the capsule cure the hiss- problem or is there something broken in the electronics?

I wouldn't think it would be hiss, either sound or no sound and maybe everything in between, but, I wouldn't think hiss. Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe some other capacitor in there is going bad or has a loose joint, could be a cold or fractured joint on something that old too. Now if you're looking to change the cap anyway, why not.
Harumph!

Just tested the mic again and the hiss now seems to have become constant. Any ideas how to trace the broken component or joint?
