I have saved many wine corks over the years and am wondering if I can do anything useful with them in my studio. I do not believe they have enough mass to make a difference in sound control, but I dunno, what do you all think? Could I put them in frames as panels for diffusion? Any ideas? I'm gonna go have another glass of wine while you think about it....

Dunno about sound control, but there was that cool picture in Tape Op #67 of Kevin Killen standing in front of panels made up using end-cuts of wooden batons. You could definitely make something aesthetically pleasing with wine corks, and it ought to have some sort of diffusion / absorbtion effect...

If you have a dart board in your studio then yes, corks are really useful. Mount your dart board on a square plywood board. Cover the remaining area of the dart board with the corks. You can glue them on with something strong. They'll keep your wall safe from stray darts, and they're soft, so they won't dull your darts too much. Hooray!

Feet for under your monitors, but, they have to be renamed to "organic inertial iso-decoupling dampers", really, seriously.

Stick them on the blades of your X-acto knives. Save a finger!

Contact mic 'em. Stick 'em back in the bottle. Pull them out of the bottle. Record the sound of them coming out of the bottle. Use this sound to subtly reinforce other sounds, without telling anyone. I suggest bass drum for starters. That or vocals. No, wait, guitar leads.

No, wait! Record to tape at the fastest speed possible. Then slow the tape down as much as possible. I don't know what you'd do with the resulting hellacious racket, but it'd sure be impressive. Maybe you could use it to terrify the neighborhood cats.

No! No! Dump them all inside a bass drum. It'd be like the shredded newspaper trick, only without the newspaper. You'd be an innovator.

Put all the corks in garbage bags, and stack them in corners. I bet it would give some bass trapping. Probably not a lot, but it will help.
Yes, I'm serious....

Hey, it worked for me with spare tires in the basement.
