Children's acoustic guitar
I'm thinking about taking guitar lessons with my daughter at our neighborhood clubhouse and I'm looking to get her a low cost acoustic guitar. Any suggestions?
yes, depending on how old/size I really liked the tone of the First Act 1/2 size that I found I think even at toy's R Us -- seriously. I found myself really digging it and playing it myself on the couch -- much to the chagrin of my son.

They really should be POS, but the sound pretty cool.

It's important that a beginner's guitar be actually playable, or better yet easily playable, or the new player will get discouraged.
If I were getting a guitar for my daughter, I'd try to scrape together $250 for this: http://www.wechterguitars.com/models/travel_series
After, of course, seeing what the local used market had to offer.

Have you considered an electric guitar? You could score a 'starter pack' from any banjo-mart for around $250. Electrics are easier to learn on, plus your daughter would likely better relate the sound of an electric to her favorite band, be it Jonas Bros or whatever - further inspiration to keep at it. What kid listens to acoustic music?

Find a used Baby Taylor. It's great for everyone.
I totally miss mine.

Thanks for the replies! My daughter is 7 and very small. I like the idea of the electric, but also thought the acoustic is something we could leave sitting around and just pick up and play. Unfortunately the classes won't fit in our schedule, but I still want to get her a guitar. My wife and I want to have instruments in the house for the kids.
my father-in-law just got our son a ukulele. He's 15 months old, so he can barely hold the thing, but he does like to strum it. Maybe that's not a bad place to start for a seven year old. She won't worry about it being uncool at that age, right? And it's easy to pick out a melody and play simple chords, the standard tuning is an open Am7.
