Hi TapeOp gang,
I am constantly transferring project files across the internet and I am looking for a good file compression program that works well with audio files. Not to be confused with a compressor, those are a lot more fun

i use flac if i am forced to compress files. i usually just send rar'd or zip'd .wav or .aif files. rar compresses more, but both conatin error checking.
i've heard flac might not be 100% lossless.

I should have used a different word than compression, I am looking for an archive tool like winrar or stuffit, but I thought I read somewhere that they either didn't change the file size much or could lose audio data; does that sound right?

I haven't found any problem with archiving with .rar files. I'm a mac user, but if you use windows check out the archiving programs on this site and see if any of them work for you.

hit ctrl F and type archive to search.

No problem with FLAC files being lossy in any way AFAIK. Best part for me is that Reaper can read/record them without conversion. But I do use .rar archives as well.

Thats actually what I use too, but on another FLAC thread people were saying it wasn't so good. I disagree, I think it's great. Maybe not amazing for mp3's, but I can't imagine it causing a problem when compressing to a .rar or .zip.

you know, the .mp3 conversion in "switch" isn't all that bad. i don't experience any of that swooshy high end that other converters do.
