Warning! Logic Users

Post by Sculli » Tue Dec 22, 2009 4:24 am

Just started getting the message "disk too slow" followed by a blast of white noise. Very loud and painful. Please be careful! 10 pages on this at Apple Logic forum. No solutions offered. Was just weening myself off PT and now this! Ugh!!!!!!
Peace,
Kevin

i have the same problem sometimes when I'm dealing with very high (40-50) track counts and a ton of plug-ins. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it helps if I restart my computer. Never have any problems when I'm dealing with a sane amount of tracks though

You guys might consider grabbing the Logic Pro 9.1 update that hit yesterday... it has a TON of bug fixes, and 64-bit support under Snow Leopard.

A friend just warned me about a few things with this update, something to consider...
Apparently, no more bouncing direct to mp3 and no bouncing direct to a QT movie.
A strange omission but thought I'd let you know.
I won't be upgrading mine for a while, just passing the info.

That isn't true. I just bounced direct to MP3 in 9.1 to test it, worked fine.

I can second that... in 32-bit mode, everything works as it did in 9.0.2 but the annoying crap has been fixed. The only limitations are found when running in 64-bit mode due to 3rd-party software not being 64-bit yet. I think Apple has done an impeccable job making a 32-bit wrapper for most 3rd-party plug-ins to run in while under 64-bit mode, as well.

When the update is installed, it defaults to 32-bit mode anyway, so I wouldn't sweat doing the update at all... Also, it keeps your 9.0.2 install intact. No real reason not to, really.

Here's some info on the updates:

This thread seems to have derailed a bit....I haven't found any new updates on this problem, so I'm wondering if anyone has successfully resolved it....seems Apple still hasn't publicly addressed it. I can make peace with some pretty buggy stuff, but the whole Disc Too Slow/white noise blast is really pushing it. On top of the potential for hearing damage, it's more than embarrassing to stop a band in the middle of good takes several times in a row with a weak ass excuse about software errors. Regardless of the reason, I'm the one left looking unprofessional. I'm running a Mac Pro octo core with 6 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM external drive, I've tried different buffer settings and sample rates. Occasionally I think I've got it licked, but so far it's always come back around after a bit.

They fixed it with the 9.1 upgrade, fixed, but, not my lightpipe problem.

I have heard good and bad things about 9.1 but if it fixes the blasts of white noise. I'm all over it.
