DIY 1176's or LA2A's

Post by blackwaterstudios » Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:49 am

I've built a buncha N72's and just bought a DIY la2a and I want another.

What're the best options out there for either a DIY dual 1176 or an la2a? I guess I'm not THAT picky which I build...

No matter how hard I look I can't really seem to find a good up to date kit or whatever. I thought a while back someone around here had an up to date shared BOM on mouser for either of those but damned if I can find it!!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

For dual LA2A PCBs, there is [silent:arts] D-LA2A for sale on the prodigy-pro.com/diy forum. Also, you might want to check out the "Analag Opto Comp." It's a dual LA2A with some interesting tweaks--you can find more about it on the same forum if you search for D-AOC. [silent:arts] has PCBs for that, too.

I'm not sure of any dual 1176's currently available, but you might want to wait for Igor's 500-series 1176 if you're down with that format: http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=40009.0

Have fun!

For LA-2A's everybody loves the Drip Opto (http://dripelectronics.com) and the best 1176 kits are found at Hairball (http://hairballaudio.com). The hairball kits include any of the different Mnats boards which are fantastic. I'm planning to build a pair of the rev D's some time this year.

Group DIY forum (the link in the previous post) is the spot to find good DIY. I just built 16 of the LAZPro EQN 500 series 1084 eqs and i'm staring on a pair of the 500 series 1290's as soon as the parts show up this week. And as soon as my finger heals after burning it on a 750 degree soldering iron earlier today :)

The opto 4 is great and amazingly easy detailed build instructions.

The hairball kits are great too. I built a pair of Rev D's and have another pair of Rev A blue stripe boards to build sometime in the future.

I gotta say - from my recent quest for a DIY kit, hairball audio has 'em all beat as far as what they have - what you need to complete it and everything as much in one place as possible including a shared mouser cart!!! Wish they'ed do an la2a - hint hint.

Completely gave up trying to find la2a diy kits

I guess they're hiding them well...

Dude, the drip Opto4 is a great LA2A kit, with total build instructions from front to back and a full BOM in the instructions. Seriously man, it would be hard to top that unless you just did it point to point.

Yeah - been looking at that since you mentioned it. Went back and found they're calling it the Opto 4. Looks pretty cool.

Yeah, he added a bunch of options like the ability to add a second opto cell with a faster release to switch back and forth etc

Just buy the board and buy one transformer / tube per paycheck. Then you will have it in like 5 years! Seriously, I am going to have to buy the board and just slowly populate it as funds allow. It's too sexy sounding to not build.

Yeah, you know things are getting really bad/good when you can't decide WHICH LA-3A clone to build.

That was exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking of buying the parts in order of size (height), since I'm pretty sure that's how you're supposed to stuff the board. Can you register a BOM at mouser, like your "wish list" on amazon to share with family and friends? People could see what you already have and what you need, with no guessing for people (read, everyone else in my life) that have no fucking idea what a cap even is?
