New UA 4-710d....looks pretty dang sweet

I love my single channel of 710, and it sounds the same as the orignal I'd be super impressed. Also, having 1176 style limiters on each channel could be super useful, again...if they can actaully emulate the sound properly. Plus it's got digital outputs! 2k is a pretty decent price tag for this little dude.

The analog section looks really cool. While the digital stuff makes it versatile for people with project studios, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it kinda dates this piece, or takes away from a certain "timelessness" you'd expect of a top-quality piece of outboard. For whatever reason I'd expect a unit like this to have nothing under the hood except what's needed. I guess they're following the A2D's lead.

The video on there shows some interior shots....and from looking at the guts of my 710....it seems true...they use only what is needed. But also they have really, really good qc, the components are high quality, and the soldering is prefect.
Also the digital output is optional in a way, you don't have to use it. But as far as being timeless....i'm not sure that any preamp with a digital output will be timeless....or for that matter any a/d or d/a convertor. Who knows what digital sources will be in the future. One cool thing is that, it has 4 extra line inputs you can utilize and send them on the 8 channel lightpipe with the 4 710 signals. So you can use it as you would any 8 channel adat preamp.
I dunno....i like the sound of the 710....i use it on every recording, so to me this seems pretty rad.

It's definately a different sound than the 610. The 610 is slower and really starts sounding pretty murky when you drive it. Not so with the 710. It is quick and captures fast transients extremely well. I use the solid state side all the time, and it's got a very crisp sound, but doesn't make high freq's sound piercing. Also, when pushed it breaks up like a gentle overdrive. I use it all the time to get a subtle overdriven bass sound. The di sounds fantastic.mertmo wrote:wow, this looks great!
Never heard the 710, how's the solid state end of the dial?
I have an original M610, and although it's very cool, I wouldn't
want 4 more of them. I'm after solid state boldness at this point.
cool product!
