Cheapish "battle" headphones recommendations?

Post by niccolo gallio » Fri Nov 26, 2010 9:22 am

Hi,
can you recommend me some models of headphones that are reasonably sensible, are closed and cost around 40-50 usd or less?

I need to buy some (4) in a pinch for an upcoming project

thanks

I forget the model number, but the workhorse Sennheisers are really good.
Between $20 and $40 a pair. Closed phones, decent sound, great for tracking/monitoring.

I just mentioned the MoreMe's on another thread and someone mentioned them being pretty uncomfortable, especially for long hours. I just plan on having them for artists to track with, not sitting with them on for 4 hours, have you guys had good experience with this? At the price they seem great. I had a pair of HD202s that broke but I don't love their super hyped bass enough that I'd want to buy a bunch of them. I know the MoreMe's won't sound amazing, but have they worked well for you folks? How have you been using them?

HD 201, HD 202. Nothing special, except the part about them being $20 each. Great beater studio phones. You wont cry if the dog chews the cord off.

Recording a lot of Punk and Metal bands, I went looking for some headphones we could afford to loose. I tried several cheap brands, one stood out - 6 out of 6 pairs are still working, one of them has a bad vol control but who cares. I paid around $6 for each. They actually sound pretty good and are great for those who want to turn one side down.

Jwin JHV 100B If you google them you will see lots of ppl selling them, I got mine from Buy.com when they were doing a free shipping promo.

By battle phones I think maybe he means DJ style phones? I would always suggest Sony's for that. DJ's love that sony treble lift.
As far as cheap? I dont know maybe Stanton or Gemini make a decent V600 rip off. Vestax is alway sgood for an interesting take on gear. Kinda like the Fostex of DJ stuff.

Mhmm, these would be awesome, although a little above my budget and I'm afraid they would stomp all over my already few clients.

Thanks, my primary needs would be for talent monitoring, not for DJ'ing

Never heard of the phrase "battle phones" before. Guess its an idiom.

"battle phones" is a direct translation of the italian idom "cuffie da battaglia".
It loosely means that it's so durable it could withstand a "battle".
It means something that you use in rough situation while you keep the "good" stuff for the "hip" moments
