which budget usb mixer/interface should i get?

Post by fucdemas » Thu Jan 13, 2011 3:14 pm

i've been goolging for the past few hours and haven't found much

i would like a mixer/usb combo with 4 ins (at least 2 mic pres) and 4 outs.

the reasoning is i often like to reamp softsynths and stuff either into a room to get natural verb or through guitar pedals. everything i've found in the sub $400 range seems to only have 2 outputs.

but then again this is a guess. alesis and behingers and mackies sites don't really spell out the I/O. they're very vague.

it needs to be USB. bundled with ableton is a plus.

so far i've found the alesis mulitmix usb 2.0 seems to have 10 ins but only 2 out

mackies usb offerings seems to be stereo pair in and out

same with behringer

if you can shin any light on my decision it would be greatly appreciated

tascam makes one cheaply that is supposed to be ok. i haven't heard one, nor do i know anyone with one...but it seems to fit your bill.

thanks for the tip.

The site says 16 ins and stereo return out.

i'm surprised these designers have thought to add an extra pair out.

especially in the world of 5.1. seems like it could be cheap enough to do.

well, i researched it for you and it actually only does 10 in at once, but still should fit the bill for you. i hear they are discontinued in some shops, but you could find one for dirt cheap online...

i also understand the mic pres are very clean...so report a little more than usual latency, but one user solved that with the asio4all driver thingy.
