Mics and Preamp

Post by DanC111 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:05 pm

I'm looking to add an external preamp and a new mic mostly for my vocal (very John Lennon-ish) and acoustic guitar (Martin D-42, Gibson Hummingbird, Gibson J-200)

I've been considering Blue's Robbie preamp as well as one of their mics. Total budget
for these 2 pcs: $1500

Anyone have experience with these?

Current Setup:

Apogee Mini-Me (looking to replace it - see other post)
Macbook Pro (2010)
Yamaha HS50 Monitors
Yamaha Motif
Cascade FatHead II
KEL-HM1
Beyer M88
Logic 9

Vocal: Mic - Used ADK TC avg. $300 Pre- Golden Age Pre 73 (New) $300.

Acoustic Guitar: Mic - AT4041 (New) $300. Pre- Used Grace 101 avg. $350.

Total: $1250.

Take the rest and put toward panels to treat your recording space (if you haven't already done so.)

I tried out a Robbie and thought it was great for vocals. I ended up buying something better for drums in the end though. I also have a Blue Bluebird. I love it on my voice. Not so much on other voices. I sound nothing like John Lennon so it may not be the mic for you.
