Hi!
Sorry for the claustrophobic topic header.
I know absolutely nothing about synths - I'm just starting to research different models, mono vs poly, analog vs digital, etc.
Someone recommended I check out the Alesis Micron for its versatility, but I've heard they're difficult to program for beginners.
I'd like to get tones approaching these bands:
Spectrum

Suicide

39 Clocks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRJ7izZbjuk
Moon Duo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_poVvevKDM
I realize they're all a little different, but was wondering if there was a synth that might have an all-around approximation of some of these tones.
Apparently S3/Spectrum used cheap Casios with lots of modulators and Moon Duo use an Alesis, but I'm lost for the other groups.
Ultimately I want warm tones and polyphony (i.e. the ability to tape down keys on the bottom half of the keyboard while playing something on top).
Any advice?

Saw suicide once and was struck how original Marty revs rig was. Wierd boxes feeding into each other and nothing looked like he bought it at guitar center (which wasn't around then) . In otherwords that combined with the other info you stated about the other bands would suggest experimentation with any keyboard you choose is your key word.
Saw Sonic Boom (Spectrum) live some months ago. He sounded great and he didn't bring any of his obscure vintage synths:

Just a cheap casio, a Zoom sampletrack? and some guitar pedals.
