I just had my open reel machine at the tech's shop for some repairs. He told me to use 99 percent alcohol on the heads and the pinch roller. I asked him about using alcohol on the pinch roller and he laughed.

He said tascam always recommended "rubber cleaner" (whatever that is) and otari recommended alcohol for pinch rollers. He told me he got the two company reps fighting about it in an email.

He finally decided to clean tascam rubber with "rubber cleaner" and otari with alcohol.

I have an otari and I plan to follow his advice and use alcohol.

The Right Stuff will clean your heads better than alcohol ever could and it's made for rollers too.
