Make sure the mic is snapped into the clip before letting go.. Pay attention to the S+M dial... Works well on bass drum as well as it's traditional sources (toms, elec guitars, bass, vocals...) in a pinch...

What do you guys do with the S+M dial? I had a recording workshop that I went to one time, and the teacher was asked about this, to which he replied...
"S stands for shit, and M stands for Music... set it to Music.

As far as I can tell, the M is the side with the most low frequencies represented, yeah?

I have a 441, with the same S/M switch. We recently did a three-vocal live session. Two of the mikes were LDC's, and one was the 441. It sounded great, and really held its own with the condensers, _after the switch was moved from "S" to "M"_.

I'm not sure why that hi-pass, craptastic setting was ever included on those microphones, but I'd avoid "S" at all costs, unless you're really looking for that "shrill, low-powered" sound.

Ha!

I did a lead vocal today on the "S" setting.

I'll link it when the song is done.

Put it on M and forget it.

Or buy a 521. It's a 421 with no roll-off switch.

You can put a safety pin or paperclip under the button on the clip - that should keep the button from working, which will keep the mic from falling off the clip at inconvenient moments.

Mine's the II, what recordinghacks.com quotes Scott Dorsey as not liking, but I'm liking it!

Did a voc last night - in the "M" position.

I'll link 'em when my England collab'r gets his parts to me and I can mix.
