1968 era Classic Compressor EQ settings

Post by billzoe » Mon Sep 19, 2011 7:05 pm

this is mostly a question on Vintage Compressor-EQ Type (Opto, Fairchild, Pultec, CE, etc..) and settings and methods.

Please forgive me, i obviously dont have a a REAL Fairchild, etc.. I am an Amateur so its not like Knowing what to do will comprimise others livelihood. in this light, please help me . If you dont want the info Public, PM me.

I am trying to approximate the Bass tones like heard on Later DOORS lps ?

ex: Love Street, Summers Almost Gone..also on the Morrison Hotel lp - ( i believe these were Bass Guitar vs Rhodes bass)...

I have REC using P-Bass, and is close, but what i need to figure out is:

.....Compressor, EQ Type and Settings to get that "Woody" tone (Low, rich but NOT Muddy-hard to describe, just listen to those songs is best way to show what i mean), and the Type (model) gear used.

It seems somewhat consistent in that the Doors were always getting this Same Tone, over and Over.

2-Compressor Type and Settings for Guits on Buffalo Springfield Guitars (acoustic and electric) as heard on Retrospective lp.

thanks
