Mono USB Headsets

I was wondering if anyone knows (or has experience) with mono USB headsets in regard to whether or not the L and R signals get summed, or whether it is only the L signal that passes to the earpiece. I don't know if all manufacturers handle this in the same way or not. Any info would be appreciated. Thx!
