Vintage Philips Console. Ident./technich. help appreciated.
Hi TapeOp!
This is my first post on this forum. I was looking for a place to introduce myself but could'nt find it. I'll guess that will come along the way..
I've been here as a reader for some years, and always appreciated the atmosphere and the topics/knowhow you find here.
I'm a tapeguy, using a Teac 8516, in between computer recording. My studio is in Stockholm, were im recording stuff for friends and the band i'm playing with.
As the title suggests i'm having some problems with a vintage Philips board.
It was used in a studio, and was working when it was taken apart. I found it on a saleout an bought it, rather foolishly costing a bit, without knowing how to interface the modules with each other. It consists of these modules:
Channelstrip: Philips EL3680 / 10
Rectifier Module: Philips 89932009100 24V - 2A
Mic/Line Amp: Philips EL3660
Ok, what i do know:
I've been trying to find info on these modules and have managed to find the schematics for Mic/Line amp EL3660
I've seen similar loking channelstrips, with the same type name, racked.
So i know it's doable.
I've also read postings on GS an the topic of EL3660 racking, he/she said that he/she had done it, so.. same there.
I have tried contacting them without any luck yet so far. And I've asked the nice guy that sent me the schematics for EL3660 some racking questions.
So, what im trying to find out
1. The pinout for both the Channel Strip EL3680 and EL3660.
This so i can find a way to hook up connectors like XLR's or TRS's.
2. Schematics/Layout for EL3680
If there is one still..
3. Tips / Experience racking or using these or similar types of modules.
Yeah! Long posting, mostly about asking for help. Maybe not the best first post. But Maybe this post will also in the future be a resource for people having the same trouble.
Input of any kind would be much apreciated.
And of course, thanks for your time reading into it.

wouldn't be the worst place to start, ask to talk to the oldest guy there.
that numbers probably out of date
http://www.preservationsound.com/?p=1199
more info there.
http://www.technicalaudio.com/pdf/Philips/
and you may find it helpful to search for Norelco instead of Philips for any US information.

The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.

This is all I could come up with:

It's not much to go on--maybe you could contact one of the posters in the thread.

Haha, yeah.. Iys really fun with old stuff but, more and more i feel theed for an academic degree in electronics and circuitry.
In this case the sad part is i know it can sound good, people even in some cases compare these with the sound of old neve desks. I dont know bout that though.. But it all tend to put some 'stigma' on the subject.
Best regards Hans

regarding 3660
Hi there.
Yes impossible to find any info on these modules.
I bought 2 on ebay, some years ago. The seller said he had the documents. but I only got half + half of something else. Later one got stolen, so now i only have one. I think they look nice with the germanium transistors and with a healthy 65 db.
So HOW do they sound ? is it worth the sweat to fix them ?
If you have a scan of the service manual, i would be happy if you could mail a copy.
Cheers from Michael. Copenhagen.
