Use Tascam 388 as front end to T-38?

Post by jrdamien » Tue Jul 30, 2013 2:08 am

I know it's possible and I have read other threads from everywhere but I find no clear explanation of how to use the 388's mixer as a front end to the 38.

Would it just be the pgm outs to the 38's ins? I feel like I am missing something.

I'm not a 388 expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I *am* used to cobbing gear together... if the pgm out is a channel direct out, there's your solution. My Ramsa has an insert jack on each channel, which allows me to use a TRS breakout to set up a send/return for each individual channel. So in that case, the insert jack hot side would run to the 38, and I could probably monitor through the 388.

My Tascam 424 Mk.II has direct outs for each channel, but it's gotta be coming off the cassette. So if your 388 is set up that way, it might take a bit more hack-work.

Each channel has a "tape out" - use those!

I've been messing around with a wee little TEAC 2A mixer lately, and it looks like the "cue out" is about as direct an out as a guy could hope for. Not sure if the 388 has such a thing.
