Tascam 58 OB HELP

hi everyone! i just recently picked up a Tascam 58 OB with transport from an estate sale. I threw some tape on it and the functions and vu lights work!
only issue is im getting no signal on any of the inputs.
i ran a mic into a focusrite ISA one into the back of the machine through both XLR and RCA (it has both for inputs) and im getting no signal on any of the VU meters. kinda confused where to go from here.
i read online that the 58 is a +4Db machine, could this have something to do with it?

I assume you did this with the tape in INPUT, is that correct? Did you try to put the machine in REPRO and record to see if the record function was working? If you can record onto the tape, but not listen to things in input, it is may some sort of switching issue. If it won't record at all, then it it probably related to the input section.

yes i tried with the tape in INPUT, and also tried recording something in repro. no signal on either.

Probably needs to go to a tech. Do you by any chance have some pre-recorded tape to try?

i have some quarter inch prerecorded... can i use it on the machine even though its a half inch deck?

so i tried the quarter inch on it... not getting any levels on the repro either... any thoughts?

You will not be able to play other tape widths on this machine – it is made to use 1/2". Trying a 1/4" tape will not work because the track widths are different.

Are you in the USA? If so, what part? I'd be glad to give you some recommendations on a technician to have a look at it.
