MD-421 clip lock
I've seen a lot of "hacks" to get the clip to stay put on a Sennheiser MD-421, but I just want to say that the greatest solution ever is the tie-wrap. You need the tiny tie-wraps and black of course looks best. Once the clip is locked in position, there is just barely enough room to slide the tiny tie-wrap under the button, and then bring it around and tie it tight. This prevents the button from "ejecting" the mic every time you touch it (because you can no longer depress the button). If you ever need to remove it (and I don't know why), simply cut it off. If you have a 421, try it seriously. If Sennheiser had put a lock on that clip in the first place this would never be needed, but this is the best workaround I've encountered.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
All the 421's we have for rent have that zip tie*. Nobody ever complains or cuts it off.
*two, actually - one on each side of the button.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
You are sooo right. Last time i handled a MD421 without that was 10 years ago and its crash into the floor head on was prevented only by the cable i was lucky enough to have gripped fast enough. There are some 3D-printed clips that also do the job but i don't got a link ready. The same goes for the clip of the MD441 - if that gets too loose it also can slip from the clip.
Due to luck and circumstances i am offering a limited run of Beyerdynamic M380 clones with unused Beyer capsules. PM me for info.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
my 441 is missing the clip. meant to find a replacement but I have been using some shockmount thingy probably meant for an SDC... but it sorta works.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
our 421s at the station are a testament to how horrible of a design the mount is. Dented, fucked up, covered in gaff.
I should spend some time cleaning all the crappy gaff tape off and some elbow grease with some Goof Off and then zip tie them all.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
A couple years ago John B reviewed a commercially available piece that locks the 421 clips in the Magazine.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
yeah, I'm afraid my cheap "universal wireless mic clip" does the job and is not $50.

and I did look at the thing that John reviewed and for $25, I'll still stick with the $0.03 tie wrap.

John also reviewed a 3D printed clip that an Etsy seller seller has (and looks to still be available), which might be OK if you don't have a clip...

Re: MD-421 clip lock
exactly. It took about 5 min of goo-gone to get the old tape residue off, but it looks much nicer and honestly holds better w/o the gaff tape.

Whomever I bought a couple ATM-25s from decided to remove the assembly that attaches to the mic stand, so I use these as well.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:35 amyeah, I'm afraid my cheap "universal wireless mic clip" does the job and is not $50.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
you can use a paperclip
here's a pic of the zip tie in place - you can put a paper clip in a "u" shape in the same place

Re: MD-421 clip lock
Yep. One of the studios I work out of has three ATM25s. Two are missing the clip assembly and have that generic rubber mic clip zip tied in place.trodden wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 12:51 pmWhomever I bought a couple ATM-25s from decided to remove the assembly that attaches to the mic stand, so I use these as well.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:35 amyeah, I'm afraid my cheap "universal wireless mic clip" does the job and is not $50.
