Some time ago, Apple sunsetted their own “Music Notes” app for iPhone/ipad. It was maybe the handiest music tool outside of my DAW. It was a nearly instant recorder app, and it had some fundamental chord/note detection built in.
So you could open it up / hit record / and go.
Then you could view the note / play it back / and see the “best guess” chords / notes you played.
For melodies sung in the car / quick piano scratch ideas / guitar noodlings, this app was hard to beat. But they’ve been guiding folks away from it since ~2022. I’m still able to use it on my iPhone 14pro, but I wonder if it will be re-downloadable in future years. (And I presume it will be fully gone / un-launchable in a near future iOS update)
So… anyone have a favorite digital scratch pad app? Anything else out there that allows you to jump right to recording an idea / anything with note & chord detection?
RIP: “Music Notes” — any other iOS apps that compare?
