The Bax is pretty clean, yet bold sounding, if that makes sense. You can do a lot with it, Each band can be stereo, mid or side, so once a frequency is chosen, you can audition each option. I got the 1db gain switches and on the mix bus that's kind of a lot (they also offer .5db which might be better in mastering) you can always hear what you've done. When I'm ready to add it to a mix, I can think about what I want in a big picture way and the EQ really helps get me there. Things like wanting a more open sound, or a more aggressive push, or "more thump" are easy to dial in.

A lot of my sessions lately have been fast, but I want to try it on overheads, and vocals sometime.
Nice. Thats rad it does M/S as well.
Yeah, it's pretty cool. The company has a bunch of cool things, including a mastering console that could probably work well as a hybrid mix situation.

But that magic low mids thing IMO is more about balances and eq than ITB or OTB - being very selective about where you add top end and how much is such a big part of it.
Can you expand on this a bit?

Also agree with the Peter Katis thing whenever possible. I spent a while experimenting with the tape emulators to get, what I felt was the best sonic profile for me, and I leave it there now and mix into that.

Basically I see myself slowly replacing my ITB 2 Buss with a few good hardware pieces. The AML is giving me some added dimension, the 542s are giving me some glue and heft. A clean Beriech03 audio EQ seems like a really good addition to that chain.

If you're ever driving north through Illinois, stop by and hear mine.

I'd be tempted too, but I'd argue with the "north" bit. I'm not quite on the Wisconsin border, but closer to there than the Chicago Loop.

All paths lead to Central Illinois!
