Come on memory, kick in.

I think:

a) Psychocandy
b) Bowie greatest hits, disc 2
c) Black Celebration
d) Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
e) Down by the Water (that's the one w/PJ in the Red Dress, right?)

I can't get off this stuff. It's really good. I like Skinny Puppy and Miles Davis, but this is my tunage.

Well for me it is more like Rhapsody but here is what I have been enjoying...

1. Story of the Year - Page Avenue
2. Sugarbomb - Bully
3. Los Lonely Boys - Los Lonely Boys
4. Alejandro Escavedo - With These Hands / Under the Influence
5. Misc. early 80's rock.

Surveys like these are always fun.

1. Major Stars "Space/Time"
2. Faust "Edinburgh 1997"
3. Jacks "Vacant World"
4. Can "Tago Mago"
5. Can "Live Music 1971-1977"

It's debilitating to be a record collector scum AND an audio geek at the same time. Throw in home improvement and you're looking at some serious multi-disciplinary G.A.S. attacks.

Rigsby: I agree on the Nik Kershaw; I wish I had that one on CD, or that I could find where I put the goddamn cassette (The Riddle on side A, Human Racing on Side B).

the car's 6-disc changer: for my trip to the gig in Dayton I carried a couple extra CDs so this list may be more than 6:

Miles Davis, "Bitches Brew Complete Sessions disc 1"
Charles Mingus, "Mingus Ah Um"
Tragically Hip, "Phantom Power"
King Crimson, "Discipline"
Eric Clapton, "Me and Mr. Johnson"
Wilco, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"
Bonus CD from Marillion's "Anoraknophobia"
Frank Zappa, "Apostrophe"
David Bowie, "Greatest Hits" disc one
Afghan Whigs, "Gentleman"

the turntable at home seems to always have Dylan's Greatest Hits LP on it, though I have spun Sam Phillips' "The Indescribable Wow" at some point in the last few weeks.

Home CD player: not a changer, but;
-a demo by De Novo, a band that played on the same bill as me last week in Toledo
-Aimee Mann, "Lost in Space"
-the CD that came with the Can DVD
-Matmos, "Quasi-objects"
-"Do Me Baby!" a compilation of Austin, TX artists covering Prince tunes

..and a cassette of songs by Avocado Jungle Fuzz that I mixed and hadn't listened to in ten years.

How is that? Wasn't it on ET recently that Prince said he wouldn't perform much of his older material live anymore because he didn't want to corrupt kids? He sounds like his dad saying that his music is all "sex, drugs, and limousine music." Or Donna Summer. WTF, he's one of the most talented musician's there have been, but I think he needs to get off of himself.

Pardon the rant.

Well, I think there's lots of artists out there who have gone a bit 'round the bend as they get older...that aside, the CD is pretty cool. There's a great solo acoustic guitar blues version of "Delerious," and the loungey "Darling Nikki" is good. I like the Fuckemos version of "Controversy" a bunch, as well as the Adults' "Sexy M.F." Overall it's a good record.

1. James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards: Live in Ought-three; so there are a couple of overdubs; the guy is an unrecognized Tele great with a decent live band, and a true Americana songwriting genius. Funny, too.

2. Neal Michael Haggerty: Plays That Good Rock and Roll; I liked Royal Trux and his guitar and Jennifer and all the noise, but his solo stuff makes me realize I like his more "conventional" writing and arranging, too (and do check out the two Trux actual band records.) And I still like his guitar playing. Two drummers, too.

3. Psychedelic Furs: The Psychedelic Furs re-issue; Veddy interesting, barely rocking, but not stupid "new wave." Raw Lillywhite, too, so his production choices, explained somewhat by the liner notes, are quite interesting.

4. The Dream Syndicate: The Complete Live at Haji's; my favorite live recording ever, this week. Great remix! Probably my favorite garage rock band ever; and I am so sorry I missed Wynn at the TapeOp conference. (How was he and the Marvelous Three? Anybuddy?) Proves Cutler was/is as good, or better, than Precoda!

5. John Scofield Trio: LIVE EnRoute. My favorite jazz guitarist, jazz writer, and great band here, too. This is what I would play, if I had any taste, class, and chops.

My personal mixes are alwayz floating in and out.
bandcamp;
blog.
I mix with olive juice.
