that must have been a joke. that is BS. I try to figure out guitar parts in songs that come out just to figure it out and a TON of bands use that exact same progressions and attack in their riffage. if this is true, they should sue anything metal or nu-metal band that has come out in the past decade. give me a break that has to be joke.

they are/were doing a Metallica movie. the DVD is foder

If this lawsuit has any merit then Metallica, in turn, should be paying royalties to the composer of the "Jaws" movie soundtrack.

...and john williams to mahler...

ummm... erik ashley did a nice job with that. it's better than most of his stuff on his 'scoop this' website (the rest of it is basically wrestling and bad onion ripoffs). i am just wondering where he got the music for the cheeseball unfaith site --- intelligent promotion for his hard-rock christian friends?

it's a joke, people! if you go to www.scoopthis.com, you will see that they are kinda like a canadian Onion. here's the disclaimer site: http://www.scoopthis.com/pages/article. ... /legal.htm

it still is as funny as shit, though.

you don't even need to go to the scoopthis mainsite, go to mtv.com and search the news for Metallica. nothing relevant pops up.

but here's a question - mind you, I haven't liked anything since And Justice... - do you want a band to stay in one place and never evolve, or do you want a band to evolve and try new things, knowing that what they grow into might mean that you hate their direction?

there's plenty of bands that, once they find thier niche, they stay in it until death. Slayer is the best example I can think of... after three albums in a row where I could peg, just by looking at the *positioning* of the songs (not titles or anyting) which would be the slow, creepy number, which would be fast, which would be rocket speed, which would be about war, etc... I stopped buying their albums - just like I stopped buying Metallica's stuff once they started moving away from the stuff I liked them for.

House Pig

There is no way in hell that "No life til leather" is anything like " ...and justice." But I'll tell you what, I love those albums and all of them in between. It's not a question of direction... it's a question of motives and actions.

...and Metallica wasn't trying "new things". They were conforming to the crap that we call Nu-Metal, just to sell records.

Since when was performing Bob Seeger covers "new"?

Shite, absolute shite. As someone posted here earlier, they have lost sight of everything death and metal.

I'm just worried that this hoax is going to upset Lars' stomach. I would hate that. It might hamper his visionarious affability. The man has done more for art and American cultural growth in the 20th century than any other human. I salute his genius...

...no wait. I fucking hate Lars! Die Lars, Die! Geez.

I can see it already: Ken Burns' Death Metal. Bet PBS hauls that one out for fundraising time...

I'd watch it!

Do ya think Alanis is gonna sue Avril, after Liz Phair counter-sues Alanis when when Alanis sues her?

Debbie Gibson vs. Brittany (older kiddie material)

Goldie Hawn vs. Brittany (bippie material)

Playboy vs. Brittany (duh!)

Michael Jackson vs. Justin Timberlake

Any good grunge band vs. Creed

Johnny Cash vs. Ozzy

Est. of Hank Willliams vs. Hank Williams, Jr. vs. Hank Williams, III

Est. of Elvis and Est. of Roy vs. Chris Isaak

Joy Division vs. Interpol

Cars vs. Strokes

JAMC vs. BMRC

Grateful Dead vs. every hipie-ass jam band

etc.?

first off, I didn't say it was "good" - just "new".

and if you've never played Nu-metal, or done a Bob Segar cover before, then that is something "new"... not to be confused with "good".

I think my point is being missed. Let's say that they had never changed after "Kill 'Em All". That their next 8 albums were "KEA" parts 2-9.

We'd have been spared "St. Anger" and "Load"... but also "Master of Puppets."

That's my point - we can't decide if or when a band changes their style, and we can't decide what direction they change into, unless it's our band. So they can either be static, or they can change. But we may not like what they change into.

....one last reply and then I can retire this topic. Point well taken HP, but my point was that for all the pre-Black albums the sound changed, but they still sounded like metallica. Now they just sound like everybody else.... and I'm spent.
