Amother one to check out: the Peavey VMP-II. Less tubey than some, but still quite good and two output options for more color. Quite happy with mine.

The king of tube mic pre's, a Telefunken V76 in top condition is hard to beat. It's got some color but I wouldn't say it's real dirty. Sounds great going to 2". Great vox preamp.
