i'm not a fan, but they are a talented group. actually, any chris whitley fans out there might dig his record that he did with billy martin and chris wood called "perfect day". live in the studio... great performances of covers from leadbelly to lou reed... fans of "dirt floor" will probably love it.
Love that
Perfect Day recording.
(OT: I like to play it back to back to Cat Power's
Covers CD, and that Church VD, something
Birds, also; some very interesting and well done interpretations by some cool bands.)
If you like
Dirt Floor, definitely check out his latest two records, with live recordings done under bridges, some done on MD players, and all the performances are amazing.

I'll second recommending SEA OF TOMBS, that album (The s/t one) is excellent.

i've heard the "weeds" record, but not he "blues" record yet. i've done some work with brandon kessler, who puts chris' stuff out on messenger. whitley is awesome... sometimes a bit "mercurial" on live performances, but if you catch him on the right night... he's as compelling as they come.

I'm totally in love with this band The Sadies. They're a Canadian band that combines surf, country, garage rock and psychadelic stuff. They're currently touring with singer Neko Case as her backing band.
Here's a link to some videos of them and a 20 minute clip from one of their live shows.
Video of The Sadies
And here are a few MP3s

Enjoy!

... might be old news to folks on here from the NW, but two really good songwriters from here are Pete Krebs, and Damien Jurado. Pete's records " I Know it by Heart", and "Bittersweet Valentines" are about as good as it gets.
