The Residents piece is great. There's a quote to the effect that, if you like everything the Residents do, then you are in fact a Resident.

I really liked the Carol Kaye and Larry Levine articles! Very cool.

And you are reviewed in it.

LC took a question I sent him when he asked us bored folks for questions. Unfortunately (or should I say "as usual") I look like an ass. Oh well.

I asked if putting a different input transformer on an LA-2a type compressor would yield a mic preamp or a pile of fried resistors. Anyway, I found an old input transformer that I had in my pre-balanced signal path days and used it to plug a mic into my homemade elopto compressor and viola! it gave plenty gain and sounds great on voice. A tiny bit of noise though. I'm gonna get me a Jensen Transformer and quite possibly burn down my house!

Thanks JB, if you are reading this! SKATE SKATE SKATE!!!
not to worry, just keep tracking....

Any Chris Garges reviews? I love that guys equipment reviews. I have a converted PlaySkool singalong, with one input the original microphone, and one a 1/4" jack for my bass or a guitar. I need to work on putting a boost on the instrument channel, probably the same chip as used in those Smokey Amps.
