Re: Books on recording?
I got a lot of help from The Mixing Engineer's Handbook. Also the TapeOp book. But if you don't know anything about mixing, the Handbook can help you start thinking in frequencies for EQ. There are a couple of very simple charts denoting where in the frequecy ranges different instruments fall that I found really helpful. The best option of all is to witness someone really good working that doesn't mind explaining some things. Good luck!

i liked me some practical recording techniques. at the time it was a good place to start, but i'd like to check out the modern rec. tech. too. the tape op book is a nice read too -- and great for the coffee table might i add.

There's a Tape Op issue with a whole article on books. Last year maybe? A treasure trove.
