I second that. Hating P-90's is not an idiom I'm prepared to deal with right now.
Word. All my faux DrumSound-bashing aside, one thing he taught me was to keep a towel on top of your monitor and flip that fucker down over the screen (or just turn the screen off) when your clients are listening to playback. Good shit.fifthstory wrote:I hate computer monitors. I hate how they distract from listening when mixing, and I hate to watch people doing eq by drawing what they think it should sound like. If I could have my way, I would only ever have them on when I'm editing.

the new ones do suck, but I have a 60' gibson with real P90's and they are priceless. strange mojo with pick-up's like those staggered pole piece strat pick-up's, people seem to go nuts for em'Catoogie wrote:WOW! gear that everyone loves that I.... we'll say "dislike":
SM57. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why people worship this mic on guitar amps... so so boring and cardboardy. I have several other cheap dynamics that ALWAYS get picked over the 57, and I always put it up just to make sure I'm not smoking crack. And every time I confirm that nope, no crack. Just a boring mic.
RNC compressor. The hype on this piece is impossible to avoid, and when I heard it for the first time, I was like.... "you're kidding, right?" Not a bad sounding box at all, but far from great IMO. I'd rather use a 3630.... no shit. I guess me and Garges will go down together for that one...

nope like I said in the other thread I'm a fan of the 3630 too, for some things it's really good..but the 57 has a place in my heart, no longer the guitar choice anymore but I'll always have 2 aroundMERTMO2 wrote:gear that everyone loves that I.... we'll say "dislike":

word. I just read the companion thread to this one, and it seems like there's more than just one or two of us who like the 3630. Mine got fried by bad electricity, I'm gonna have to get another one...nope like I said in the other thread I'm a fan of the 3630 too
so what does "dfv" mean...? I'm a neophyte when it comes to all the internet abbreviations.

Re: Equipment you HATE but everyone else seems to LOVE
Thank You!!! I freaking can't stand the sight of a 58.. I'll never understand it. Sometimes I swear poeple buy this mic just because they heard someone else uses it. Now, as much as I hate to admit, It doesn't suck, but it doesn't sound good either.. Any mic in it's price range sounds better, IMHO. I especially hate using them when I'm mixing live because there's no stinking feedback control.. Why can't vocalists spend another $50 and do a little research before buying their main instrument?? GRRRRR!!ec?amoR ecnaL wrote:sm-58. Everyone,m from walter sear to you, say its a great microphone. But i just hate it. Its bland and boring, and I just don't like the shape of the sound. I have been using the shure 55 reissue on everything and have been much happier.
Of course at work, 58's are all we have. They do take a beating, I gues that's the best thing about them.
Oh well, I buy gear all the time because I heard someone else uses it too.. I'm such a hypocrite.

That said, it can be a bitch to record. Those pick-ups PICK-UP everything. I usually need to find a noiseless position and stand perfectly still while I play. Sometime, I wish I even had a cheap humbucker LP but my back-ups are Supros & a National.

Mackie consoles
ProTools LE
