anything by the Red House Painters. "really really sad beautiful music" describes them to a T. check out Down Colourful Hill, self titled (rollercoaster cover), songs for a blue guitar, ocean beach. they are all great. actually there is a song on DCH called Michael that is about losing his best friend.

Opeth. both albums: Damnation and Deliverance

recently my girlfriend and i broke up. 3 days after it happened i went to her house and talked things through. i layed with her in her bed and put on the 10+ minute opus 'A Fair Judgement' from Deliverance. it was the most painful ten minutes i can currently remember. i was able to hold backcrying for most of the song - tho i've never had tears simply drip and pour out without any other actions normally involved in crying.

and then... the breakdown in the song came where its nothing but Mikael's voice and piano at the 8 minute mark. it was all over then. full on all-out hysterical crying.

but it was a beautiful moment and it made us realize how much we really loved eachother even tho the relationship wasnt working.

Somebody mentioned Husker Du. Candy Apple Grey is unrelentingly sad.

sorry for your loss dude ... gottstsa say Red House Painters was a great call, definitely check it out .. the first Spain record is also good

mind you sometimes some good indie rock can work wonders ... a g/f I split with years ago put me into a coma of listening to Archers of Loaf - VeeVee on repeat for about a month and it was very cathartic

hang in there man
